THE CHALLENGE

Advanced sonar buoy technology is vital to the US Navy’s ability to track enemy
submarines. The client needed a custom data recorder for a next generation sonar
buoy, one that would:

  • Record data from an advanced sonar array.
  • Operate using marine batteries.
  • Support long-range wireless control and data retrieval.
  • Withstand extended temperatures.
  • Store large amounts of sonar data.

THE SOLUTION

Created for the Naval Research Laboratory, the major prime contractor's sonar arrays extend the state-of-the-art for underwater detection. To seamlessly process and record these vital data streams, Teligy created a unique system that:

  • Harnessed custom FPGA hardware for data format conversion.
  • Optimized system performance by utilizing custom system level software and a real-time recorder application.
  • Supported remote control and monitoring, featuring a long range wireless control and data retrieval system.
